The acceptance letter is a rare and unusual gem for the majority of "worthy applicants." While the rejection letters are always disappointing they can also seem personal and can cause a downward spiral of self-loathing.
We are Sorry You Applied This Year is created from rejection letters received after applying to grants, residencies, teaching jobs, and other opportunities over the course of three years. The modified text is the result of deleting large swaths of the original letter and speaks to the mindset of the artist when reading letters intended for a gentle letdown.
